This holiday season Proximity Gallery is excited to present new work by Marie DesMarais and Janine DeCresenzo.
Marie DesMarais’ work springs largely out of the unconscious sketches and scribbles in her countless notebooks. Forms and colors combine with found materials including paper, fabric, wood and glass to create landscapes that mimic both aerial views and microscopic images. A focus on texture and depth gives her work a complexity that blends seamlessly into its thoughtful composition.
Janine DeCresenzo’s
jewelry is a combination of metal forms with pierced stylistic embellishments and elements from nature. Textures, color and tactility play an important part of the design process. Inspired by aquatic life, elements in nature, and urban relics. Intricate mechanisms add movement and repetition, all blending to create free-flowing and very wearable art.
Using sterling silver and gold nuances to add contrast and balance, the jewelry is formed and fabricated creating small sculptures of different textures, levels, and metals. Hand cut stones and other rare materials such as coral, piano key ivory and fossils are incorporated into the designs. DeCresenzo creates s
culptural jewelry for men and women while fusing antique with space-age, and comfort with individuality.
