Outdoor Rug

I’m sure you can tell this is a piece of “artificial turf”. My husband needed some to finish a project and you can only buy it in a large carpet size so there was a lot leftover. I figured why not use the rest to make an outdoor carpet? Not the prettiest or the most stylish but I think it definitely brightens our little deck we have (it also keeps from things falling through the cracks).

Here is a picture of our deck before the carpet and the one below is another picture with the carpet.

Unfortunately I didn’t take pictures as I made it because I just wasn’t thinking but it is super simple. I used blue painter’s tape and spray paint for try #1. I didn’t even measure the stripes, I just “eyeballed” it while I worked. I am an artist too so I had some spray paint laying around so I used what I had. The first carpet had the natural green of the carpet, blue, yellow and white. As you can see it is different colors now because the spray paint flaked off and didn’t last. I don’t recommend using spray paint if you want to tackle a project like this.

So, for try #2 I used leftover paint from projects I have done around the house. It was just regular indoor wall paint.

Again I taped off the stripes with painter’s tape (you can use masking tape too) then rolled on with a small roller each color. I did one color at a time, let it dry then went to the next color. I used yellow, white and a mint color this time around. I wish I took a picture of the first rug I did but once again I forgot. I think I like the first color combination but this turned out nice too.

What do you think? Would this be something you would try? Does it look like a possible outdoor rug you could buy? It took me about an hour in all to do so it was a quick and easy project to spruce up our outdoor space.

As always, comments are welcome.
