I guess you could consider this post part of my “Loft Living” series too so let’s go with that. If you missed the other posts just click here and here and you catch up with what we have done in our loft. This is the third post in the series.

Above is one half of a 10′ ladder I cut into two. It was a really cool old ladder I found at warehouse I go to a lot and find amazing things there that the owner gets at estate sales. The ladder I bought for $10 and couldn’t pass it up. I have been wanting to do something with an old ladder for a while so when I saw it, I bought it. I did have to clean it up a bit and then I painted one half yellow and the other white.

We don’t have a lot of storage in our apartment so I have to be creative. Luckily we have a fairly large bathroom. Our washer/dryer is also in there and it has some shelving over it but I keep a lot of our household supplies, toiletries, first aid stuff, beach towels, sheets and other linens there so I wanted a place for guest towels. I wanted guests to have easy access to towels and a place to hang a hand towel for drying hands.

The second rung of the ladder is where I keep a hand towel and the very bottom rung is for my daughter or another small person to dry their hands (you know….so they feel important).

I chose yellow because I am really into that color and it looks great against the gray walls and brings some brightness into the bathroom. I have no windows in the bathroom so I thought it was a good choice.

The other part of the ladder is in our “bedroom”. We don’t have a door or a room but just a space. It is still pretty private but it can still be seen by anyone that uses the bathroom (meaning…..everyone) because you pass by our space on the way. I have to be careful and creative about displaying our stuff and so I thought the ladder would be a cool way to show off my scarves, my husband’s ties and belts. I painted it white because it was a good neutral color and displays colorful things well.

Another reason I am excited about this project is that I can use them for other things if I want to rearrange. I thought of using the white ladder for blankets in the living room but thought it would be a little too tempting for children to climb so maybe in the future when i don’t have babies crawling around.

There ya go. What do you think? What would you do with the ladders? Would love to hear your thoughts and other uses you can think of for the ladder…other than for climbing ;)

See you next time.
