Selling my work on Etsy

Posted November 24th, 2009 in Press by marie

Hello again.

I have been hearing so much about Etsy from many different people.  My aunt, friends, and fellow artists.  Every time I am selling artwork/jewelry at a festival there always seems to be someone that asks if I am on Etsy.  So, I checked it out.

I read a lot of information and finally decided that I will join and have an account.  Nothing is up yet because there are a lot of things to add and set up but as soon as I get it running I will let you know.  Some of the details I have to think about is policies.  Will I offer returns/exchanges?  What if they are not happy with the product?  Another big one is how will I get payments?  How will I ship my work? When it all adds up (time, cost of supplies, shipment, materials) is it all really worth it? Is just getting my name out there worth it?  As you can see there are a lot of important questions to think about.

I could sell a lot but I am going to keep it to products I already have.  I will be selling my button necklaces which are made of real ivory and shell buttons with matching earrings.  Also, like I mentioned in my last post I will be selling my hand printed wrapping paper and note cards.  I figured since the holidays are right around the corner I would put the holiday stuff up first and then follow it up with birthday and other designs.

Eventually I would like to put some of my artwork up but I don’t know how I feel about it yet.  As a consumer would you purchase more expensive pieces of artwork off the web or would you want to see it in a gallery setting? Is my artwork marketable enough to be sold on the web?  Personally  I would rather purchase it in person.  I enjoy the experience of going to galleries.  But, maybe people will do it anyway because I would like to think if someone enjoys the artwork enough they would buy it regardless.  Let me know what you think.

So stay tuned for more information about the Etsy account because you will soon be able to purchase wrapping paper, cards, jewelry and artwork made by me!

If you are interested in buying anything before I get the Etsy account together just email me.

Thanks!

The Philadelphia Weekly Said My Name

I know it isn’t a big mention, but it is always exciting to see your name in print. Check out the Philadelphia Weekly’s Art Roundup, and then email them to tell them you want more info about this Marie character they mentioned.

The mention, for those to lazy to follow the link, is about the Bambi Show which I’m working really hard to prepare for. Keep an eye on this site. I’ll have more info on the show in the next couple of days.
