For the Holidays

Well, the holidays are here if you want them to be or not. I love everything about the holidays. I especially like to decorate and make things for the holidays. I have said in the past…. Martha Stewart moves into my body and I begin crafting and decorating like a mad woman. I can’t help it. So, I figured why not make some more products to sell. I did and I just dropped them off at SWAG boutique in Northern Liberties. I also have them to sell through me. You can Facebook me or email me to place an order, especially if you don’t live in the area.

I have triangle and circle felt garland, baby onesies and holiday cards. Check out the pictures below and let me know what you think.  This weekend in Northern Liberties Shopping Spree on Saturday and Sunday.  There are a lot of great shops participating and SWAG is one them where you can find my stuff. Check it out, get your shopping done and support local artists! Information about it here and if you click on the link above.

Visiting Terrain

This is what it looks like when you walk from the parking lot into Terrain at Styer’s. As soon as I pass onto the dirt path I immediately become relaxed. This past Friday, my wonderful husband accompanied me to my most favorite place….Terrain. Not his idea of a good time but he did it for me because I am so darn relaxed after I visit. He did admit later that he had a good time with me and the kids. I think part of it is that we always end up eating while we are there.

Anyway, I love Terrain. It is my happy place and a big inspiration for decorating the home, especially for the Holidays. I wanted to visit specifically in time for the Holidays. Terrain always has the best ideas and products. They are owned/affiliated by/with Anthropologie (surprise, no wonder I love Terrain).

It is definitely a place to visit if you haven’t already. They have a great SALE rack and some of their items are reasonably priced but I will say most things in Terrain are over priced. That is really the only down fall. Terrain took over a nursery that I used to visit with my mom when I was young called Styer’s so there was already a lot of room to work with. They transformed a nursery into a little getaway off of Route 1 near 322 outside of Philadelphia, PA.

They have a little cafe set in a greenhouse. The food is local and amazing. If you aren’t into shopping, it is worth going for the food. They also have a counter where you can grab an espresso drink and pastry. This is also attached to the store. Below are some pictures of the grounds. There is a lot to see and there are a few greenhouses and buildings that are fun to wonder through and get inspired.

IMG_4641

I want everything in this picture.

IMG_4642

Here too.

IMG_4643

Oh yeah….here as well.

IMG_4649

This is outside the greenhouse where the main part of the restaurant is but they have seating out near the coffee bar too.

Inside the restaurant.

Cheese plate and scallops with a delicious barley salad I shared with my husband.

IMG_4660

You can sit down with a hot cocoa, grab a blanket and sit by the fire. They started one shortly after taking this picture. I love this idea for our backyard near the fire pit.

IMG_4662

Back side of the place where I would totally live if I could live at Terrain.

IMG_4663

Beautiful table setting. They have examples of table settings throughout the store and grounds..so clever.

IMG_4666

Love the textures and colors going on here.

IMG_4667

I always find the “SALE” rack. They move it every once and a while but……. I always find it.

Outside of the restaurant.

So, what do you think? Amazing right?! I seriously wish my house and surrounding backyard looked like this but alas it doesn’t so it is a nice place to visit. Again, I always find it very inspiring to go there and seriously wish I could work/live there. Maybe one day I can be creative enough to work for them. Until then, I will continue to visit and enjoy my time there.

I recommend going and at least walking around. Enjoy your week!

Felt Garland!!!

Posted October 30th, 2012 in Fabric Accessories, My Store, Other Work, Stores, Wall Decor by marie

So here is Philadelphia, PA there was a major storm that came and went (a lot of clean up to do). Her name is Sandy so I figured I would do some crafting and blogging since I have been slacking. Below is a picture of my latest creation for sale at SWAG Boutique. You can also order directly through me. You can email me here or contact me via Facebook at Unique Annick if you want some garland for holiday decorating.
IMG_4398

I am really psyched about this garland because you can move the pieces around on the string/rope. You can cluster a few together or spread them out….what ever catches your fancy.

The pieces of felt are on bias tape that I had around. I have a whole spool of it and am not psyched to use it for anything else because it is a 1/4 inch. It is pretty difficult to work with but for garland…perfect!

I really enjoy making the garland and I am also working on another variation of felt garland that I made last year too. I can’t seem to find a picture of it from last year but when I make one I will let you know.

More pictures of the garland below. I will be making more and more colors too so keep checking back or just follow me on Facebook at Unique Annick and like the page.

Okay, now for the details. Each felt garland is 9 ft./3 yds. long and there is a loop at either end for easy hanging. I packaged it on pieces of balsam wood that I had around and labeled it. I also think the wood is good for keeping the garland from getting tangled when you have to put it away for the season. Each garland is $15.

What do you all think? Would love to hear your thoughts.

For all of you dealing with the storm and aftermath…hope everyone is safe. See you next time.

I get my haircut at the coolest place

Posted September 21st, 2012 in My Life, Stores by marie

I finally got a haircut thanks to my mom (early birthday gift!). The last one was about  year ago. I got a recommendation to go to this new place in my neighborhood by my friend Morgan (thank you!). It is called The Parlour and it is in the Fishtown neighborhood here is Philadelphia, PA. It is just another great addition to this thriving neighborhood.

So I made an appointment and I got one with Tammi. The haircut is fantastic and she was so great. I will definitely be using her as my g0-to hairdresser. Besides the wonderful all around service and haircut, was the decor. When I walked in, I fell in love with how the space was put together.

IMG_4065

The salon is in an old industrial warehouse that was redone. Whoever cleaned up this place and made it all shiny and new, did an amazing job. There are still some original walls, windows, beams, etc. throughout the place. The salon is only one part of the warehouse. On the other side is a tatto parlour and there is more space upstairs.

Below are some more pictures of the salon.

IMG_4056

Great use of space. Perfect place to get hair washed.

IMG_4063
IMG_4062

I just love everything about this photo.

IMG_4059

Even the bathrooms were awesome…I especially love the sink.

IMG_4057

Sat in this chair to get my haircut….love the industrial details.

IMG_4064

Great ceiling and the lighting is so classic but interesting.

I enjoyed my time there and love the decor so much that I had to write a post about it. Thank you Tammi for a wonderful haircut and if you are in the neighborhood, you should definitely check out this awesome space and maybe get a haircut and something spa-like too ;)

Here is the link to The Parlour’s facebook page and here is a little write-up about them.

Have a great weekend!

More onesies!

Posted September 6th, 2012 in Fabric Accessories, My Life, Stores by marie

Hello, hello everyone! Hope everyone’s week is going well. Below is a picture of my son with a new onesie I made.

IMG_3934

I wanted to try a couple new ideas out over the weekend and week so I used my little boy as my model…..pretty cute model if you ask me ;) . Sewing into stretching cotton is difficult and my first try didn’t go so well (you can see it in the onesie above, there are a few small holes) but I figured it would be good to practice on some old onesies I have around.

I have a bunch of other ideas and there are pictures below. In the pictures you will see there isn’t stitching on some of them. I haven’t done that part yet but plan on doing so. I will post pictures of the final product on my Unique Annick facebook page. If you haven’t done so already, follow me or just like my page. Anyway, take a look below.

I have so many more silhouette images too. If you would like one, I am doing “made to order” right now so just contact me and I can make you one. I will have a few selling at SWAG boutique too. I wrote a post a week or two ago about the letters onesies so check that out here. I will be selling them for $15 each or if you get a few of them I can cut you a deal. Shipping and handling will be $5.95. The sizes will run from 3 months to 24 months and I will be using mostly “Carter” brand onesies because they are pretty true to size.

What do you think? I think my favorite is the messy tie and glasses. Feedback would be awesome!

Have a great weekend.

Fabric and paper thank you cards

Posted September 4th, 2012 in Fabric Accessories, Stores by marie

Hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day and extended weekend. I spent mine with my family and working away on orders and new products. Below is my latest creation.

IMG_3903

It all started after having my little boy Beckett. We got some great gifts for his birth and I needed some thank you cards (if you gave us gift, you’ll be getting a thank you note soon ;) ) so I decided to make some. I decided that I didn’t want to fold them in half. I wanted to find a way to cut down costs and use small pieces of scrap fabric and paper I had around my studio. What also helped with deciding on the size was some kraft paper envelopes I had left over from an old project. Below are some more pics of the final product.

IMG_3904
IMG_3900

After sewing the paper and fabric together I stamped “thanks” on the top of the paper. I think it turned out great and still leaves plenty of room for a note of gratitude. I will have them for sale at SWAG Boutique in the Northern Liberties neighborhood here in Philly but if you would like a pack through me just email me here.

Be aware though, that not every pack will look like the pictures above. I am using my scrap fabric so every pack will be a bit different. There will be 6 in a pack and the card measures 3 1/2″ x 5″ with an envelope.

How do you all feel about a card that doesn’t fold? Do you think there is enough room to write a message? Thoughts, as always are appreciated and I would love to here them.

Letter Onsies

Posted August 24th, 2012 in My Life, My Store, Stores by marie

IMG_3725

So what do you think?

I have started creating these great onesies for little ones. It came to me when I was in a boutique that I frequently go to and I was looking at some baby onesies that a local artist makes. They are very cute and I love them but then I looked at the price and I screamed a little inside. Hey, I will be the first one to admit that I have bought some things for my little one that were probably way too expensive but I really couldn’t find a good reason to by a onsie for $32 that my large baby will probably grow out of in 2 weeks. Yeah, you read it right, $32!

Now, if you have the money to spend on stuff like that, more power to you but I do not. I don’t judge you and I think it is great to support local artists and I try to do that when ever possible but this I couldn’t justify. I am a local artist myself so I know. Now, I don’t know the costs behind making this onesie I saw and I don’t know how much time was spent (time creating should always be considered in final cost) and this was original art screen printed on the onsie so again….not judging. But I decided that I wanted to make some cute onesies for my little tank and eventually sell at a reasonable price. The pictures above and below show the final product.

IMG_3743
IMG_3742
IMG_3741
IMG_3739

I took some plain white onesies and picked out some fabric I liked against white and ironed on the letter. The “B” is for “Beckett”, my son’s name and the “D” is for our last name. I really like the fabric and am really psyched how they turned out. I reinforced the letter with sewing some decorative stitching. I did wash them to see how the letters would do in the wash and I am very happy with the result.

I hope to sell these at SWAG boutique where I already sell a bunch of my things. I was thinking of selling them for $15 a onsie. Now, you may say that is still kind of expensive for a onesie but again when I price my items I think of time spent, materials and making a little profit :) . I wanted to sizes 0-3 months and all the way up to 24 months. I would keep the price for all sizes and I do have a little wiggle room on the onesie.

What do you think? Do you think it is too expensive? What would you price them?

I am also considering including onsies with silhouettes of animals I have used for my fabric name banners. Do you think this is also a good idea? Please comment your thoughts, I would greatly appreciate it.

If you are interested in purchasing any and you can’t get to SWAG boutique just email me and you can put in an order that way. They are not available in my store yet.  You can also contact me through my Unique Annick facebook page.

Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!

New print….”Oh Marriage”

Posted August 13th, 2012 in Artwork, My Life, Stores by marie

IMG_3428

In a past post I introduced my wedding invitations that I created myself. You can find the post here. In the post I showed you the image that was on our invitation that I carved and hand printed. It is the same image you see above but in white. I also mentioned that I was gonna do some prints with the same carving to sell at SWAG boutique here in Philly.  As you can see I did it!

I started with green and named it “Money Matromoney”. I plan on doing a lot of different colors but started with this one first to see how it does. They are for sale at SWAG so go pick yourself up one. I think they would be great for a gift or just to hang on your wall.  Let me know what you think and below are some more pics.

Have a good Tuesday!

Shopping for “Fabric Goodies”

Posted August 4th, 2011 in Fabric Accessories, My Store, Stores, Web Site by marie

IMG_1234

Now that my shop is open for business I have been trying to find ways to broaden my horizon further than my Name Banners. Along with getting more customers into my store I have been trying to find ways that I can use those small scraps of fabric that I can’t get myself to throw away. Well I think I have succeeded. I have begun making “Drink Skirts“.  I am totally digging them and psyched that I found a way to use those “useless” pieces of fabric.

I made a stencil and then cut out the shape with some colorful fabric. I used some leftover canvas I had and then used some nice fabric glue and ironed them together. To finish them off, I just picked some colorful thread and ran it through the sewing machine with a zigzag stitch so they wouldn’t fray.

Wine Marker

I loved how they turned out and I decided to package them in a clear plastic case. They measure in 3″ in diameter and fit perfectly as a group of 6. Each package holds six different patterns/colors so when you use them at a party people won’t get there drinks mixed up. Let me tell you, I have picked up many of drinks that haven’t been mine and it was both a good idea and bad. The best part about these is that they are washable. I priced them at $13.00 for 6 but that might change.

IMG_1226

They are available in my store that you can find them right here on my website. To buy the Drink Skirts just click here. They are under the category “Fabric Goodies” if you are browsing the store.

The Drink Skirts are not the only product under Fabric Goodies. You can also fine my Fabric Gift Tags that I also decided to make out of scrap fabric around my studio. I also had some nice printmaking paper scraps that I couldn’t throw away so I decided to put them together. I already had my Notebook Gift Tags which I love but I thought these would be a great new addition to Fabric Goodies.

IMG_1235

Like my Drink Skirts, I took my scrap fabric and cut it to fit the small pieces of scrap paper I already had. I sewed them together then added a piece of nice string so they could be tied on to most packages and gifts. I left the paper blank so you could write on them for any occasion. When I first made these I thought this would be great for Christmas time when you wanted to add a little something special to the package. But the more I make I think they would be great for every occasion. They also look great on a wine bottle. I have used them to label drinks and food for a party. These are very versatile and a great way to make a gift really special and unique.

IMG_1241

The Fabric Gift Tags come in packs of 8 and they vary in size and color. Because I am using both scrap fabric and paper, there will be a good mix. They will come in a clear box with strings attached. They will cost $7.00 a package.
IMG_1278

I hope you like the new products and please stop by my store and take a look around. Please keep stopping by my blog too because I hope to start blogging more regularly since I am coming up with more products. As always feedback is welcomed.
